Week 11 Storytelling: Britomart's diary

Dear Diary,

Today I was travelling with Sir Arthur and we happened upon a rambunctious squabble in the forest. At first, I could not tell exactly what  was going on, but soon I realized that there were six knights fighting one poor knight. I couldn't believe it! SIX against ONE! Ridiculous! I snapped my reigns and kicked my feet so my horse would speed up and soon I ran right upon the group of men. I yelled for them to stop, for them to be real stop ganging up on one guy. It didn't work. They just kept beating him.

I jumped off of my horse and rushed into the middle of the fight, "STOP!!" I yelled and unsheathed my sword. That got their attention. One spoke up, "Just who do you think you are?" "Don't mind me," I replied, "I'm just the man who's going to beat you cowardly fools so bad you'll go crying  back to your mummies!" They really didn't like that, but it got their attention away from the man who lay curled in a ball on the ground. He crawled away clumsily and I began my battle.

The loud clanking of metal filled the air as our swords met and our armor banged against one another. I think I shocked them with my ruthlessness as I made quick work of them and soon  had them all lying on their backs on the ground. I finished taking on the leader of the group and walked forward with the tip of my blade near his chin, "Now, just why were you fools beating up this man anyway?"

He didn't say anything, but the man i'd rescued did. He told me that they wanted him to leave his wife, the love of his life, for some woman they deemed more important. He'd refused, an honorable action in my opinion, and they'd attacked him. "Is this true?" I asked the man at the end of my sword. "Yes," he replied. "You should be ashamed of yourselves!" I said before helping the beaten man up. I escorted him to his horse and asked if he'd like to join me on my quest to find my love. He happily agreed and showered me with gratitude before jumping on his horse.

I'm excited he joined us, it's nice to have more people to help me find my (hopefully) future hubby, Sir Artegall.

Sincerely,
Britomart

Author's note:
This week's story comes from the story of How Britomart Fought with Six Knights from Stories from the Faerie Queene by Mary Macleod, with drawings by A. G. Walker (1916). I liked her character's strength and that she stood up for the little guy who was not only in an unfair fight, but was being beaten up for a noble reason. I hoped to make her more like I was when I was a young lass, a little fiesty and hopelessly in "like" with some boy from class. I went with a diary post because I hadn't done one yet and it seemed like it'd be fun to write from her perspective.
